The Origin Of ‘Vlad’

Let’s start at the beginning

I am the type of guy who loves a good nickname.

I also do not mind stretching out to come up with one.

One such case is that of my brother, Steven.

Years ago, we were not that close, and as a result, I enjoyed bullying him and calling him names.

After watching an episode of Full House in which Stephanie had been ridiculed by some classmates, wherein they began to call her ‘Step On Me’.

I found this to be rather humorous, considering that the name ‘Steven’ can be also spelled ‘Stephen’, which is similar to Stephanie.

I, in turn, started referring to my brother as ‘Step On Me’.

After a while, we put our childish ways behind us, and became the best of friends.

However, that did not deter me from nicknaming him.

But, being the heart-felt guy that I am, I decided to make a change, as not to hurt him any longer.

‘Step On Me’ transformed into ‘Stepania’, a loose synonym.

That stayed as the status quo for a while, until I became more involved in the NBA.

I came across a player on the Portland Trailblazers named Vladimir Stepania.

What luck I had!

The natural transition had to occur.

‘Stepania’ would now be called ‘Vladimir’.

‘Vladimir’ also can be shortened to ‘Vlad’, which is routinely is.

Also, as my NBA knowledge grew, I learned of another player who had something to add to this sordid affair.

His name is Vladimir Radmanovic.

Thus, Steven, my dear brother, had numerous nicknames to which he was well aware, and answered to all.

The most used name is Vlad, however, Vlad Rad, Radmanovic and Stepania can/are still used in certain instances.

And that is the back story behind the metamorphosis of his name.

(And yes, I know that I have deep emotional issues that need to be dealt with, but I don’t care. VLAD forever!)
