Fall 2011 TV Preview - CABLE

Yesterday I gave you my cheat sheet for the Fall 2011 NETWORK TV season. Today, we delve into the cream of the crop - CABLE TV. A change though, rather than list by premiere date as mentioned previously, I will instead list the shows by Cable Network. You’ll get it; don’t worry. “So, let’s go!”

AMC -

  • The Walking Dead [Sunday, 9:00pm] - I jumped on this bandwagon a bit late last season, but those 6 episodes packed quite the punch. Based on the reports I have heard from various critics, the premiere episode is phenomenal. Really excited to see the new season. (Premiere: 10/16)
  • Hell On Wheels [Sunday, 10:00pm] - (*NEW*) There was a time, about a year ago, when I thought AMC could do no wrong. However, based on recent mis-steps (Rubicon, The Killing) I am rethinking that position. And by the reaction thus far from TV critics, this show doesn’t help change that thinking. Maybe it evolves. We’ll see. (Premiere: 11/6)

BBC AMERICA -

  • Luther [Wednesday, 10:00pm] - The six episode first series of this show last year was outstanding. Idris Elba is simply fantastic as Lt. John Luther. Based on the thrilling finale, I am super stoked for another six episodes. (Premiere: 9/28)

FX -

  • Sons of Anarchy [Tuesday, 10:00pm] - Last year, the third season in the drama series, was somewhat lackluster. It did catch some fire in the satisfying finale. I hope this season is more even throughout. (Began 9/6)
  • It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia - [Thursday, 10:00pm] - What can I say about this outrageous comedy? It may very well be the best kept secret on television. If you have not seen an episode yet, this is season 8, I implore you to do so at once. Comedy gold! (Premiere: 9/15)
  • American Horror Story [Wednesday, 10:00pm] - (*NEW*) FX has always been a cable network on the cutting edge. This show only exemplifies that mantra. Looks wild and insane. Gnarly! (Premiere: 10/5)
  • The League [Thursday, 10:30pm] - When it first began, it relied on the Football aspect a bit too much. Last season, though, it did a much better job of deviating itself from that premise and worked nicely on building up the characters. So happy it’s back. (Premiere: 10/6)

HBO -

  • Boardwalk Empire [Sunday, 9:00pm] - Tons of credit must go to HBO for having the gaul to finance such an expensive show. But it was well worth it. The freshman season was equisite both in storyline and camera work. I am highly anticipating the sophomore effort. (Premiere: 9/25)
  • How To Make It In America [Sunday, 10:30pm] - After a extended hiatus, this fun show is back for its second season. Dubbed by some as the NYC version of Entourage, I feel it can be better than that. I hope I am right. (Premiere: 10/2)
  • Bored To Death [Monday, 9:00pm] - I absolutely love this trio of fools. Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson are awesome together. The chemistry is great and the high times are always fun. (Premiere: 10/10)

MTV -

  • Beavis and Butt-Head [Thursday, 10:00pm] - Technically a new show, these two morons are back for an entire fresh generation of stoners to love in with. CORNHOLIO! (Premiere: 10/27)

SHOWTIME -

  • Homeland [Sunday, 10:00pm] - (*NEW*) This new drama by Showtime about post-9/11 US security has been hugely praised. Claire Daines is the star and the plot seems very enthralling. Hope it’s good! (Premiere: 10/2)

STARZ -

  • Boss [Friday, 10:00pm] - (*NEW*) Kelsey Grammer is back on TV. This time, Frasier is the tough as nails mayor of Chicago which compounds his life with intense drama. (Premiere: 10/21)
